HCFO Researcher Featured in Healthcare Informatics
The work of HCFO-funded researcher John Kralewski, Ph.D., of the University of Minnesota, was recently featured in an article in Healthcare Informatics: “Quality of Care Investments Reduce Costs for Diabetes Patients.” Dr. Kralewski completed a HCFO-funded study in 2011, and a recently published Health Affairs article presents his finding that improving the quality of care delivered to diabetic patients was associated with a net cost savings. In the Healthcare Informatics article, Kralewski is quoted noting that this finding has positive implications for physicians joining or forming Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), suggesting that quality improvement may help them to achieve the shared-savings model – reducing costs while improving quality.
