About HCFO

For nearly 30 years, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s HCFO program supported investigator-initiated research projects providing public and private decision makers with usable and timely information on health care policy, financing, and market developments. The program aimed to bridge the health policy and health services research communities through significant convening, issues identification, research translation, and communication activities.

HCFO supported investigator-initiated research and policy analysis and evaluation projects examining major changes in health care financing and organization, and their effects on cost, access, and quality. This multi-faceted initiative included a number of integrated activities designed to further its objectives, including grantmaking, technical assistance, convening, issues identification, and a broad range of dissemination and communication activities such as research translation and synthesis. The program ended in December 2016. AcademyHealth provided overall direction and technical assistance for the program and continues to work closely with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to help researchers produce rigorous and relevant evidence and more effectively translate and disseminate that work.
