In their New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) article on the possibilities and challenges of reducing administrative costs in the health care system, David Cutler, Ph.D., and colleagues reference work from HCFO researcher Lawrence Casalino, M.D., Ph.D., Weill Cornell Medical Center. The NEJM article references Casalino’s finding, that the average U.S. physician spends 43 minutes a day interacting with health plans, as evidence of the burden of administrative tasks in our health care system.
