Findings from HCFO-funded Study on Hospital Value-Based Purchasing Featured in The Incidental Economist

In a commentary on pay-for-performance, The Incidental Economist [1]featured findings from a study funded in-part by HCFO that evaluated Medicare’s Hospital Value-Based Purchasing (HVBP) program in its first year. In his HCFO-funded study [2], Andrew Ryan, Ph.D., Weill Cornell Medical College, and colleagues evaluated the effect of the program on quality and found [3]that the timing of the financial incentives in HVBP was not associated with improved quality of care for either the clinical process or patient experience measures.
