A HCFO-funded study [1]by James Reschovsky, Ph.D., Center for Studying Health System Change, and colleagues was cited in an Altarum Health Policy Forum article [2]. The article explored possible policy directions to address geographic variation in Medicare spending and referenced Reschovsky and colleagues’ finding [3]that although regional physician practice patterns do have some impact, patient health status and disease burden largely explain the regional differences in Medicare costs.
