HCFO Researcher Appointed to MedPAC

The Comptroller General of the United States, Gene L. Dodaro, and the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) appointed five new members to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC). Among them was HCFO researcher, Jack Hoadley, Ph.D., of the Health Policy Institute at Georgetown University. Congress established MedPAC in 1997 to analyze access to care, cost and quality of care, and other key issues affecting Medicare.

HCFO Researcher Receives William B. Graham Prize

Mark V. Pauly, Ph.D. has been named the 2012 recipient of the William B. Graham Prize for Health Services Research from the Association of University Programs in Health Administration. The Prize recognizes the contributions of health services researchers who apply analytic methods to examine and evaluate the organization, financing, and/or delivery of health services.

HCFO Researcher Receives Eisenberg Award

Bruce Stuart, Ph.D., received the John M. Eisenberg Article-of-the-Year Award from Health Services Research. The Eisenberg award was established in 2003 and recognizes excellent and original research among all articles published in the Journal during the preceeding year.

HCFO Grantee Receives Appointment to the Council of Economic Advisors

HCFO grantee Helen Levy, Ph.D., recently received an appointment to serve as a Senior Economist for the Council of Economic Advisors.  The council advises the President on economic policy and is located within the Executive Office of the President. Her appointment will begin September 1, 2010 and end in mid-August 2011.
 

HCFO Grantee Honored by Health Services Research

Harold S. Luft, Ph.D., director of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation Research Institute, was recognized for his contributions as a health services researcher, mentor, and editor in the June 2010 issue of Health Services Research. Dr. Luft completed HCFO grants that examined resource of and efficiency in episodes of care and administrative costs associated with third party payments.

HCFO Grantee Appointed to ASPE Office of Health Policy

Richard Kronick, Ph.D., professor at the University of California, San Diego, was appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health Policy under the office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) at the Department of Health and Human Services.

HCFO Grantee Selected to Serve on an NCQA Advisory Committee

Ann O’Malley, M.D., senior health researcher at the Center for Studying Health System Change, was selected to serve on the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s Physician Practice Connections®-Patient-Centered Medical Home (PPC®-PCMH) Advisory Committee. The committee will guide the update of the PPC®-PCMH™ standards.

HCFO Grantee Appointed in the Department of Public Health at Weill Cornell Medical College

Lawrence P. Casalino, M.D., Ph.D., was appointed chief of the Division of Outcomes and Effectiveness Research in the Department of Public Health at Weill Cornell Medical College and New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
